Please note that the selected length is the final length of the string you order. They do not consider the AMO length deductions of 3" for longbows and 4" for recurves.

If you don't know the length of string required, there are several ways you can determine the length you need; If you have an existing string. Simply hook the string on a nail, or similar anchor point, and pull it straight. Use a measuring tape to measure from one loop-end to the other, to the nearest half-inch; that is, from the furthest end-points of the string when pulled straight, not where the loops begin.

If you don't have an existing string, check for markings on your bow. Most bows have an AMO (Archery Manufactures Organization) length marked on them. As previously mentioned there is a different deduction needed depending on the style of bow.

For recurve bows the finished string length will be 4" shorter than the AMO bow length. For example, a 62" recurve bow would require a 58" string.

Longbows require strings that have a finished length 3" shorter than AMO bow length, so a 72" longbow would require a string with a finished length of 69".

If you don't have a string and can't find any AMO string length markers on your bow, there are two other ways you can figure out what string length you need; Determine the AMO length yourself by measuring the unstrung bow from the top of one string-groove to the other. This must be done by following the contours of the limbs along the back of the bow (the side that faces the archer when it is being shot). Then simply apply the appropriate deductions mentioned above depending on if you need a longbow or recurve string. 

You can also use a rope to string the bow and experiment with what length gives you the desired brace height of the bow. Typically 7-8" is desirable. This method is the least reliable and should only be used as a last resort.
